IACT has been advancing clean transportation for more than 30 years. Founded in 1994 as Chicago Area Clean Cities, we’ve been championing cleaner, more sustainable transportation long before it became a mainstream movement.

In other words, we were green before it was cool.

Our History

Over 30 Years of Transforming Transportation
Founded on May 13, 1994, Chicago Area Clean Cities was the fifth coalition established through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities and Communities program. In 2022, we became the Illinois Alliance for Clean Transportation, reflecting our growing statewide impact and commitment to advancing clean transportation across Illinois.

For more than three decades, our partners and members have worked together to address transportation challenges, accelerate the adoption of clean fuels and technologies, and build a more sustainable transportation future for Illinois.

Today, we are proud to look back on 30+ years of collaboration, innovation, and impact—and look ahead to the opportunities to continue transforming transportation throughout the state.
